We didn't ask photographers. We asked the people who repair damaged negatives for a living — they own the worst film there is.
Faded Kodacolor. Orange-shifted seventies negatives. Slides that sat in a garage since 1981.
What they singled out: the colour correction does most of the work on aged film, and the three-second preview means no guessing which frame is which.
What they said plainly: this is not a drum scanner. For one irreplaceable image, pay a lab. For a whole box, this is the right tool.

What comes with The Rekindle Box
The Rekindle Scanner
The scanner itself, with the screen built into the front. Plug it into the wall, load your film, press one button. There's nothing to connect it to and nothing to install.
Negative Film Holder
The tray for orange 35mm negative strips - the ones still in paper sleeves at the bottom of the box. Film slides through flat and comes out untouched. Nothing gets cut, bent or taped.
Cables
AV cable and USB power cable. The AV cable plugs into the back of your television so your slides come up on the big screen for everyone at once. The USB cable powers the scanner — into the adapter, into the wall, done.
Cleaning Brush
One pass over the glass before you start, and a gentle sweep along the film itself. Old negatives collect dust in storage, and whatever is sitting on the glass shows up on every single photo you scan.

I had several boxes of old slides sitting in a closet for years. Every time I saw them, I would tell myself I needed to do something with them, but I always assumed it would be complicated or expensive. The Rekindle Box made the whole process much less intimidating than I expected. I’ve already gone through so many old family photos, and it has been wonderful seeing those memories again. I even found pictures I had completely forgotten about.
I’m not someone who enjoys complicated technology, so I was a little hesitant at first. I didn’t want to buy something that would end up sitting in a drawer because I couldn’t figure it out. Thankfully, The Rekindle Box was straightforward and easy to understand. I was able to start going through my old slides without feeling overwhelmed. After having them stored away for so many years, it’s really special to finally be able to enjoy them again.
I bought The Rekindle Box because I had a collection of slides from when my children were growing up. Some of them hadn’t been looked at in decades. Going through them again brought back so many memories that I had forgotten about. I’ve been sharing the pictures with my children and grandchildren, and they have loved seeing what everyone looked like years ago. For me, that is what makes this purchase so special.
For years I kept saying I was going to do something with our old slides, but I never got around to it. I thought the process would involve sending everything away or learning complicated computer programs. The Rekindle Box gave me a much simpler option. I’ve been slowly working through our collection and discovering photographs I haven’t seen in a very long time. It has honestly turned into something I really enjoy doing.
We had old slides from vacations, birthdays, holidays, and family gatherings stored away in boxes. Some of them had been sitting there for decades. I decided it was finally time to see what was actually in those boxes. The Rekindle Box made it possible for me to revisit all those moments without making the process feel like a big project. It has been such a joy seeing familiar faces and places from years ago.
I originally bought this because I wanted to preserve some old family slides before they were forgotten completely. What I didn’t expect was how excited my family would be to see them. We spent an evening going through old photographs together, laughing at hairstyles, clothes, vacations, and family moments we hadn’t talked about in years. It reminded me why those old pictures are worth preserving in the first place.
I’ll be honest, I usually avoid gadgets because I don’t want to spend hours trying to figure out how they work. I was looking for something simple that would help me do something with our old slides. The Rekindle Box was exactly the kind of product I was hoping for. I didn’t feel like I needed to be a computer expert to use it, and I could take my time going through our collection. I’m very happy I finally decided to do this.
Some of our most meaningful family memories were sitting in old slide boxes that had barely been touched in years. I knew I wanted to preserve them, but I kept putting it off. Once I finally started, I realized just how many wonderful moments we had forgotten about. Seeing those old photographs again has been incredibly meaningful, especially being able to share them with our family. I only wish I had started sooner.
There are plenty of things you can buy that you use for a while and then forget about. This feels different. The Rekindle Box gave me a way to revisit photographs that had been sitting untouched for years. I’ve spent evenings going through old family slides and remembering people, places, and moments that I hadn’t thought about in a long time. It’s been a wonderful experience, and I’m glad those memories won’t remain hidden away in a box.
I had a large collection of slides from when I was younger, including many pictures of my children. I wanted my grandchildren to be able to see those memories, but the slides had been sitting in storage for years. The Rekindle Box gave me a simple way to finally bring them out again. Watching my grandchildren look at pictures of their parents when they were young was incredibly special. That alone made it worthwhile for me.
I’ll admit that I was a little nervous about buying this because I’m not particularly comfortable with technology. I didn’t want something complicated that would require hours of figuring things out. Thankfully, The Rekindle Box was much easier than I expected. Once I started going through my old slides, I found myself enjoying the process more and more. It’s wonderful finally having those memories somewhere I can actually enjoy them.
